"After Laura returned to Paris in 2022, we have been observing how she weaves together her Taiwan experiences daily, despite the six-hour difference.

“How are we living in a better world?”

In the years since I've known Laura, I've felt her constantly questioning modern society with this perhaps unanswerable question. However, driven by her love and attachment to the “environment”, her aspirations are gradually taking shape. Also, because of her emphasis on the value of “every”life, she is motivated tirelessly to explore in her creative work, attempting to eliminate the concept of hierarchy between things.

“ I'm looking for ways out of chaos" Laura told me.

She has created a vibrant world between desolation and flourishing, traversing water surfaces, clinging to trees, erupting from the earth, while this world is in the process of disappearing. This world acidifies, corrodes, and dries up. Borrowing elements from science fiction, dreams, and spaces that transcend the boundaries of reality, she then weaves these elements together to craft a surreal landscape that defies realism.

In the past, Laura built connections and communication like a spider weaving its web, exploring the “known environment”. However, upon her return this time, despite still seeking a balance between modern civilization and the environment (though these balances are often fragile). After two years of quiet reflection, digestion, and absorption, she brings her internalized creations to Yáo. There, she reinterprets the concepts of weaving and textiles, crafting new ecosystems within chaos.

As suggested by the exhibition title "In-Between," Laura showcases a "transitional realm" that seems to hover between life and death, black and white, center and periphery. In Laura’s journey to dissolve hierarchical concepts, the exhibition aims to make viewers aware that they are merely a part of this world that is both small and vast."
